Italia’s Got Talent - with small bets flavor
Hello dear friends, how are you? I'm fine, and I can't wait to eat the croissants I just baked soon 😍 Today's number is pretty dense because I have analyzed all my small bets in detail. Here we go!
Italia’s Got Talent
I was invited to audition for Italia's Got Talent in Rome, in 2 weeks, but I don't have the time to prepare nor the chance to go there. They allow sending a video
So I asked myself: "How to get an opportunity without investing too much time and energy (as I did in 2020)?".
I thought about recycling 3 youtube shorts of my small bet "Mystery Pianist". And I sent this: D
In 2020 I had been preparing for weeks, and I was too involved. Here is the video of my failed audition.
I want to thank Daniel Vassallo for this mindset change. The best teachings I've had?

My Small Bets Portfolio
Here is my current small bets portfolio:
- Productivity 4 Creators
- ZenPKM
- PianoRebel
- Mystery Pianist
For now, I am investing half of my resources in Productivity for creators (i.e. this newsletter), and the rest of the resources I divide them on the 2 YouTube channels: Mystery Pianist and PianoRebel
Let's see in some detail how it is going.
Mystery Pianist
Here are the statistics after one month of creation
The numbers:
50 videos posted
4K views
20h watch time
20 subscribers
Nothing exciting, but not shit either 🤣
I feel there is potential, but I have to be careful to stay detached ... otherwise, I fall into the trap of falling in love with the idea …
Interesting thing ... shorts get pushed by the algorithm, but videos don't.
I'm experimenting: I always publish each song in 2 formats: short and video in 16: 9.
The short is always being pumped by YouTube and put in the face of a new audience. The video, on the other hand, seems to be relegated only to those who already know me: that is, almost no one.
See for example my video of "Shape of you" on piano
The short has 265 views and 14 likes. The video has just 13 views and no likes.
And more in detail:
the 24-second short resulted in a 1.3h watch time and 4 subscribers.
The equivalent 16: 9 video clocked just 6 minutes of watch time.
This makes me think that in the initial phase of creating a youtube channel, it is advisable to create lots of shorts.
For 2 reasons:
With shorts you have the opportunity to acquire data: know what you like and what you don't. On that basis, afterward, you're more likely to know which 16: 9 videos to aim for
So as to create an initial audience, and then introduce classic videos in 16:9.
However, since something is moving, I thought I would quickly change the logo and banner of the channel.
PianoRebel
PianoRebel is a semi-abandoned channel, which I have been trying to revive after years.
It has more than 8k subscribers, but they probably forgot me :(
How? With the same style of shorts I use on Mystery Pianist, but instead of playing pop songs, I play rock songs here.
This is the graph from the last year, and the peaks you see are the very shorts that have attracted views of new people
Now, this is a crazy figure: the views have grown by 10%, but I lose subscribers.
I lost > 65 in the last year.
For me, it is a positive fact, because in the graph you can see that new people are subscribing, and probably those who unsubscribe simply no longer remember me or do not like the latest spin of the channel. A natural replacement I would say is normal.
Productivity 4 Creators
Productivity 4 Creators is currently a hub of my Medium blog, my Twitter profile, and this newsletter.
I'm talking about productivity and hacks for Creators, and I'm using it as a case study container for my small bets.
I am focusing in particular on the newsletter:
there was> 400% growth 😱
Not even 2 weeks ago I had 9 subscribers on Revue.
Then I switched to Substack and the legendary Katt Risen recommended me in her newsletter No-Code Exits and there was a boom.
I appreciate the social aspect of Substack, which allows you to promote the platform's newsletters. There are no automatons (like other email marketing platforms), but I don't miss them.
Worth mentioning
Jordan O'Connor took a small bet approach to promote his SEO consultancy.
He made short videos investing the minimum in terms of personal resources. And it worked so much, that grouped, he put on a free SEO course!
